Leaders of the New School

The issues that arise in the parks, stem from the actions of only a small percentage .. The true OWS (protestors) or as i call them (peaceful individuals who publically speak their mind about creating Change) which by the way has been encouraged by society when we've been told time & time again to GET INVOLVED & VOTE, are the majority in the parks. We have been encouraged by Presidents who have said to the people "Let your voices be heard" I mean, Nobody arrested Howard Dean when he went on a frenzy & the whole entire place went wild.. okay, maybe that's a bad example.. When Obama ran for president & demanded CHANGE he drew a crowd that filled the streets.. When ONE person behind a podium who is dressed in a 3 piece suit delivers a powerful speech that stirs up the crowd, they are commended. They are not called PROTESTORS, they're called LEADERS! why is this any different? When ONE person stands behind a podium in a 3 piece suit its called "The American Way" its called being "Patriotic" to attend & get involved in the whole process. People wear buttons with names on them & wave signs in the air.. The stars & stripes wave proudly while police clear the streets so this process won't be disturbed. The VOTERS, the AMERICAN PEOPLE gather When ONE person delivers that speech behind the podium .. Well, this is the same thing except it gets even better because the occupy movement involves "MANY" It involves "MANY" Americans who are doing the same thing but without a 3 piece suit & a podium. Yet, they are not commended, they're called Protestors.. Anyway, These people I speak of are dedicated to the movement & aren't residing in those Parks to cause problems. In any city across America, a public park that is opened to everyone will end up attracting a few individuals whose motives may not be positive, this is true.. Hello, what i just described is REAL LIFE everywhere. That has been going on for years in cities across the world. In almost every neighborhood, condominium complex, hotel, street, school, etc... there will be individuals present who end up causing problems. When that happens, does the city shut down the entire school & call it a failure? Does the city walk into an apartment or condominium complex & order every one to move out because there is a group of drug dealers living in unit 18.. of course they don't so why are you treating the occupiers any differently. This is part of the problem, don't you see that. The problem is that these folks who started all of this, who want to be heard just like the person in front of the podium, have been looked down upon by individuals in authority from day one... They should be commended for the time they spend contributing to this movement, for caring so much about the direction this country is headed in.. They should be respected, not treated poorly. They should receive protection from the law, not be punished. They are not a problem. The few bad apples who create a disturbance won't suffer from evictions.. They'll just move to another location & cause those problems elsewhere. The vandals or drug dealers or people who provoke fights will just set up shop in a new place... while the true occupiers get kicked out of their home base. that's not right.  The Mayor who comes up with an idea that allows occupiers to continue with their movement, while removing the problem will be the true LEADER. That Individual will open NEW DOORS because they came up with a solution that nobody else thought of.. If another mayor calls for eviction they will be no different than what we already know & that's not CHANGE.. that's more of the same. It's a quick solution to the problem, a minor patch over a wound, if you will. A Wound that won't go away unless someone in a leadership position finds a way to help that Wound heal properly. We were never a nation of people who were taught to give up. So, don't give up on a cause that has the potential to blossom into something beautiful. Instead do what I did, learn more about it first. So my advice, meet the protestors, im sorry... I mean, meet the Leaders of the New School!

Sounds of the Street

An afternoon walk in an unknown town led me to a busy intersection where the humidity kept everyone tightly packed in their vehicles. Tucked away in tiny air conditioned carts each in their own little world.
I was the only one walking.  I drifted through a maze designed by a string of boxes on wheels hogging the pavement. As I approached the traffic light i noticed a couple in an suv. Their foreheads up against each others as they engaged in a deep staring contest of pure bliss which slowly led to their lips touching.   just two people enjoying one another in such an  intensely passionate manner where every moment seemed to move in slow motion.  Looking around to see if anyone was watching, their bodies moved quietly to the side.... Meanwhile, a few vehicles ahead of them, two others made their presence known as they shouted vulgar comments at each other from their cars, out in the open, without an ounce of shame.  They seemed proud of their verbal attacks as they struck each other with words that shot out of their bodies fueled by pure anger.  the noise they produced rang through the streets like a loud bell, the sound all too familiar and boring.... Suddenly the image of the couple reappeared in my mind and a new song emerged from inside of me. this new song energized and moved my legs in an entirely different manner. ...  i was no longer walking but instead i was dancing as my body moved forward.... ... I continued my journey as I removed myself from the traffic to a less congested area of the street leading to a park..... When I reflect back on that moment, if someone were to ask me what I experienced my response would be.. "Love"... because Love is Louder

Swagger like... part 2 (the 2011 remix)

(play the video & let it run for a little while so you can read this while listening to the beat:)

you reached into your soul, unleashing the inner power that drove you this far.
carrying pounds on your back, through the tornadoes, & don't need a fuckin car.
as you walked into a race unaware of the thunder that you would soon taste
savoring the storm eating the fruits & spitting out the waste.
a force of nature but your humble to the core, a resurrection of the innocence that led you right through this door.
breathing love while walking straight into the fire, unleashing your heart through the flame that speaks your desire..
about to stand up & make a mark on this planet but won't sit still for a minute because your mind can't stand it.
if your tired of holding in the words you wish to speak tear your heart from your chest,
raise it up like a flag & all your words will leak. nobody has swagga like you, unleash the flame....
speak it loud or whisper your tune, it will all be true

Hidden Gem

a hidden gem
born with a twisted elegance
shines brightly with a unique intelligence
for years so many have been unaware
of the gem's magnificence; now they stop & stare.
Attempting to diagnose every fabric of its being.
Unable to understand what it is that they're seeing.
no evidence is buried because there is nothing to hide.
instead of sleeping in closets, the skeletons   wake up and ride.
what may have been a mystery to myself and so many of my peers
now seems so different, and there really is nothing to fear.
the side thats been buried for so long climbs to the surface & breaks out.
& is out in the open now so you know what it's about

its warming up outside as the cold is almost gone.

revealing a bond that i now see has been alive all along.
so If they begin to yell next door & try to provoke a fight
the world is ours anyway so Let's Light up the Night!

She Dreams

She dreams:

Of a world where you act the same; whether around your friends or when you're together

She dreams:

Of a world where your loyalty is always present even during the toughest of times; in any weather.

She dreams:

Of a world where you listen when she speaks instead of thinking about what you’re going to say after she’s finished.

She dreams:

Of a world where you touch & caress her because you want to, not necessarily because you want something from her.

She dreams:

Of a world where you speak to when she’s next to you, not just when she’s walking out the door.

She dreams:

Of a world where the love grows throughout the years

She dreams:

Of a world where she only cries when she's happy so you won't have to wipe away her tears

She dreams:

Of a world where she can say what’s on her mind without worrying if you’ll think it’s about you.

She dreams:

Of a world where you bring her 3 when she asks for two.

She dreams:

Of a world when you make it about her without anything to do with you.

She dreams:

Of a world where she can fly without being guided while being caught if she does fall.

She dreams:

Of a love that survives when living miles apart.

She dreams in her sleep, while she’s awake, She dreams with her heart.

She dreams:

Of a World........

She dreams, She dreams, She dreams,..

& then 1 day she got tired of dreaming & said, I'm going to make this a reality today

1minute the world may not make any sense, i analyze, i debate, i search for answers..but when i clear my head & embrace the thoughts that made me who i am a revitalizing vibe takes over.. Instead of searching I explore my mind & all of a sudden the song that played for awhile shifts into an unfamiliar but pleasurable sound...
answers can be silent... the stars shine and sometimes that's all that is necessary  to get through.... we sometimes look for answers in the form of words or signs that stand out... but  the answers are all around us & inside of us too.... in the sky or the wind that brushes against our face.... silent, but potent... quiet and true... this is living. anything that may have prevented this feeling  @1 point is gone.

escape into life artist: Laura Lawson

I stumbled upon a blog a little while ago that instantly grabbed my attention the moment I saw it. I checked out her twitter account after I read one of her posts & decided to click the link that she chose to display on her profile. It was her blog entitled “Believing is Seeing” The person I am referring to is Laura Lawson who is an artist & writer from California. Her energy & honest words displayed in each one of her short stories is inspiring to say the least. Laura contributes to a website called http/escapeintolife.com which is dedicated to a friend of hers that she admired. The beautiful art she creates whether through writing or painting displays the passion which she possesses. As I began reading one of her blogs Inoticed the way she sees the bright side of no longer driving a vehicle. She is such a free person really. Sometimes we get caught up in what the world expects of us instead of living the way we want. That blog was so honest because that is the way she really felt. She wasn’t looking at the glass as half full. She poured the liquid into the glass and filled it up. There are so many ways to look at a situation and she brings that to life. Read it and you’ll feel what I’m saying. The one thing that surprised me though was when she considered herself impaired. She does have an eye disease that she says will cause her vision to depreciate over time. That maybe true but there is nothing about this woman that is impaired. Laura’s ability to express herself won her the top vision impaired blog of 2010. Laura’s writing conveys true strength powered by her unfeigned faith & drive to bring those dreams to life. Her genuine personality is so easily felt in her writing & stands out so vividly. Believing is Seeing is “top blog of 2010” material,Period. I’ve met many people who are very successful, have all they need in this world and complain because they don't have enough. There are people who take things for granted in this world everyday. Laura sees the beauty in every single moment of her existence. She realizes that her eye condition may inhibit her in the future but her personality not only enhances her life but the lives of everyone around her. She has the heart and passion that will not stop her regardless of what life throws her way but Iknow that God will have her back and make sure that a miracle happens. I realize that I have no control over this situation but I will with every fiber inside of me pray with kind of intensity of “this has to happen”. She deserves and will have all the tools she needs to live her life to the absolute fullest either way but I have a feeling that she will be rewarded greatly just for being who she is. If you are unfamiliar with Laura Lawson check her out at http/lauralawson.blogspot.com Read her blogs & see for yourself. Nothing will stop her from living her dreams & helping those she loves live their dreams as well. Laura will make her mark whether she uses chalk to create street art, a book that she plans on writing that will help others or painting a piece that will bring tears of joy to peoples faces.  Her art comes from inside of her & pours itself out to the world saying "hello are you ready for me"  I may seem slightly dramatic in what im about to say but,  If I had a wish coming my way i'd trade it any day of the week. i'd use that wish making it certain that she could see perfectly forever; or actually I would just say pass & let the wish go to her instead. I hardly know this person but it doesn't matter; people like Laura Lawson are a gift to this world. A gift to all those that will also be inspired by the work she creates now & in the future. Laura Lawson is the WOMAN!

It's a state of mind
A combination of moments throughout the years colliding together.
It's the sharpened awareness of the environment built from wisdom with the innocence remaining.
It's  A spontaneous joyride that leads to unchartered territory opening up a window 4 exploration
my thoughts roam freely allowing my mind to open up to new experiences.
these feelings marinate inside leaving a mark that will never be forgotten
I enjoy exotic cuisine  letting my taste buds indulge in all kinds of flavors i haven't tasted before
followed by a trip to a local basketball court where i take jump shots for fun.,
i  take a walk afterwards to a gallery where i can learn about new treasures that might be found overseas:
then make my way to a park or even a lake where i can dive in swim around and do the backstroke as i take a break..
It feels as if i have miles of space even in a small place.
the ocean exudes a calm yet powerful breeze that is  felt throughout my body.
It's a force that awakens the mind and sets me free as the sound of the water splashes.
I envision my future while I reminisce back to a time where i also felt like this.
the feeling is in the present : genuine and true
this moment is old but yet it is so new
laughter ringing through the air & adults playing as kids all around
my mind is in the clouds when the sand is my ground
my mood is elevated and im taken back to my youth

No matter how fast or slow whatever speed I travel the ocean will go.
Im young again, Im free again,i play however i wish in this sea of imagination.

I feel a continuous flow of increased ecstasy relaxing in a place where i can just be me.
I lay down & dream while im awake.
I picture a jumpshot at the end of a professional basketball game similar to a child in a park
Just a smile on a face and a shot for fun without any desire of adding points.
A love for the sport shining through on a court where normally winning matters so much......

It's an element that feeds all those around once one begins this amazing domino affect
It's the bliss of a first kiss along with the feeling of a matured romance running through the body.
The aroma of a finely aged wine with a butterfly in the stomach feeling of a playful glance exchanged in the air.
It's a powerful sensation so genuine and natural
It lives inside and sets off vibes all around
A blend of so many elements like a tree that breeds infinite branches.
It's a feeling that lives inside me and you
so i call it Q

A Look Inside

i dont have a specific style that anyone can possibly imitate, so if you try to copy my sound then you'll always be arriving late. constantly evolving, changing like the leaves on trees. my mind captures an image photographing what my eye sees. then i store it deep inside, releasing the art at another time. maybe in a story that i tell you or while im flowing a new rhyme. never force myself to change with a current trend or scene, but don't resist new ideas either so i create my own theme. the flow you hear develops naturally & is released on any time or date. bringing a sound that illuminates current culture with a spark that you cannot replicate. opening up my mind letting it all soak inside, what else can i do but simply enjoy the ride.........  our ideas  fuel the world we live in.  Our thoughts, Our Words, Our actions feed the ears & the eyes that occupy our surroundings. The energy that is born spreads from person to person, place to place, inspiring a brand new mood. It fills everyone around creating the environment we end up living in. Our Dreams keep us rockin, any poison that created drama melts away because we're immune. this is living. anything that may have prevented this feeling from spreading @1 point is gone.

I glanced over and saw an old house that looked as if it hadn't been occupied for several years. Something came over me at that moment which made me feel as if i knew exactly what  took place there. I saw a rope swing in the back yard & an old treehouse. I could hear the children inventing new games to play. Their imagination running wild as they created new ideas of how they were going to use the tree house. The rope swing was also a part of their new adventure and their excitement continuously escalated as the afternoon moved on. They invented their own world where anything was possible & their minds were full of life. Nothing deterred them from their mission because the only thing that existed was that moment.  They slowly drifted apart as they grew older becoming caught up in the fast paced world..  Slowly forgetting about the days when they played in the treehouse but every once in awhile the memories would return...

One day, two of them reunited.  Although they felt like distant strangers initially, their spirits reminded them of who they were.  They decided to take a ride around the old town they lived in as children...  They explored  areas outside of the zone they were familiar with as children. As they came to the end of the street, the boy noticed that the road was a dead end...  That was until they got out of their car & soon discovered a narrow path between two trees that lead to the woods. After walking a short distance they realized that their adventure had just begun. This place was filled with endless paths surrounding a stream that sang such a soothing tone. the streets that that they had been traveling on all day were crowded with people running from place to place, searching... nobody was here though. Nobody was in this beautiful place but them. Alas, they find a Castle that was once an ordinary tree just like the two at the end of the road..   "I've never heard of this place," the boy said. The girl replied, "That's because most people turn around once they see the dead end sign"

The sky is blue... the sky is blue... the sky is an array of colors

Here is my perspective on conversation related to stereotypes. We already know what they are. We've heard them over and over again. So, what is the point of talking about what we already know constantly. It really doesn't accomplish anything, nor is it entertaining so why do people do it? Take a walk with me through the City of Life and lets explore. I get out of my car & begin walking down the street. I pass by a coffee shop where people are having a conversation about how Most Women think a certain way about a particular issue vs how most men think about an issue. So, i walk across the street and overhear another conversation. This one is about how most people in their 20's are interested in certain activities & when they reach their 40's they'll end up losing interest in those activities because they will change as they age. I pass them by and walk a few blocks further & grab a bite to eat. At this restaurant I stumble upon another group of people. They talk about the differences between the majority of newleywed couples & how their mentallities differ from a couple who has been married for 30 years. I finally make my way to the park where I sit down so I can enjoy my lunch. A group of people sitting near me are having a discussion as well. Their topic is sports & how the majority of athletes in that particular sport begin to lose their edge at age 35. All day as I travel through the city I hear the same song and dance that I've heard a million times before. So I turn to the group & I bring up the fact that there are exceptions. They look at me, laugh a little bit & say; "yeah, but those exceptions are very rare so why bother talking about them" I respond, well "why bother talking about what we already know over and over again" It's like if I said, "the sky is blue" and then 10 minutes later i repeated myself and said "the sky is blue" and i kept saying it over and over again. Eventually someone would tell me to shut the f**k up. We already know the sky is blue so why the f**k do you keep saying it..... Would that make any sense? think about it. Plus, sometimes the sky is grey, other times it's black, sometimes it's a combination of many colors... talk about that instead because at least its more interesting.

I just don't get it. Do you?

I cannot understand the whole paparazzi scene one bit because the whole thing still seems to confuse me a great deal. Where should I begin. Well for starters there have been a few situations in which ive seen paparazzis film that should be illegal. I have spoken to people who have said that it is perfectly legal to shoot pictures of celebrities at any time and any place. So, what I will do is give you a hypothetical scenario & you be the judge. Lets say I decide to go out to downtown Hartford on a Saturday night for example. For all those who are familiar, please for a moment, try and picture this situation. . Obviously the story I’m about to tell is fictional & I would never do the following but just imagine If I did……. Let’s say I am in downtown Hartford with my camera on a very busy Saturday evening. As people begin exiting the bars & clubs I pick a couple women out of the crowd and begin to follow them as they are walking down the street. Are you imagining this situation? Okay, so I’ll proceed… Now, lets pretend as they’re walking , I start snapping photos of them & begin to get closer so that I am right in front of their face. As they walk, I am in front of them walking backwards snapping away with my camera. they start to become agitated and tell me to leave them alone. Instead of listening I continue to follow them and snap pictures. Now a few blocks away next to a club called “on the rocks”, there are also quite a few police cars with police officers standing in front of their vehicles patrolling the area as they normally do. I ignore them, similar to what a paparazzi in LA does and I continue to follow the women closely constantly snapping pictures in their face. Now, they begin to shout at me and tell me to get the f**k out of their face but I continue snapping photos. As we approach the intersection where all the police officers are stationed, I continue on my mission to photograph the two women. Now picture those police officers just standing there doing nothing about the situation. Picture those officers telling the two women who are complaining about me that there is nothing they can do about it. Then picture the two women walking past those officers and me continuing to photograph them as they walk to their car. For those who know the area and have read this, ask yourself. Would I have gotten away with something like that? Again, I would never do such a thing but im just trying to paint a picture here. Just the thought of something like this being allowed is completely ridiculous….. So, if this situation that I described is so ridiculous then why is it that the paparazzis in Los Angeles get away with shit like this all the time & it is viewed as normal behavior? Is society suggesting that this type of action is acceptable as long as the individual being harassed is a celebrity? Is it okay in certain locations but not in other locations? Why aren’t more of these situations questioned? I just don't get it. Do you?
